Erica Codey-Rucker

Erica Rucker sings like Aretha Franklin (underwater) while also being a freelance writer and professional wedding/portrait photographer at eElaine Photography. Erica’s writing experience goes back as far as she can remember; whether it be creating oddball tales and sharing them with relatives during holidays or chaining her ankle to a desk at age 13 to hand write a 300 page novel. She has performed regionally as a featured poet and contributed articles and reviews to LEO Weekly, Ptolemaic Terrascope, The Guide, Foxy Digitalis and other publications.

Artist Statement
Much of my work both as a writer and visual artist is based on memories. The way light dances through glass or a cluster of leaves when looking up at a tree, all remind me of things I appreciated as a child. I think that often the magic of childhood is forgotten when we lose that ability to remember. Memory space is one of the most important aspects of my work. To capture the feeling of memory, I often play with light. Hazy or noisy imagery is used, whether I am writing, shooting video or digital photography. It is meant to be representative of the way a mind might recall certain memories. Some things are always remembered like fog under a light post, misty and mysterious.
